Cast Party Wednesday
This Wednesday, May, 8th, we will be having the cast party for those who would like to come. It will be in Mrs. Day's Drama Room at around 3:30. We will hopefully be watching the video of the performance. (We are going tomorrow to see if our recording will work on her projector) You may bring treats and goodies. You can bring banana chairs or whatever you want to sit comfortably. Hope to see all of you there.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
That is all I can say. This whole process has been incredible. I have learned so much from your kids and learning how to work with this age group. There are dozens of people who worked so hard on this project and 25 parents filled out the survey and all of them said that they would allow their child to do a another show. That validates my desires to do so.
I returned home from my LDS mission in November and went in and spoke with Mrs. Day about doing a show at ACYI. I was kind of nervous to ask because I didn't want to get shot down. I had been thinking about doing an ACYI from 2010 when I helped out with Happy Days. She told me "The worst ACYI can say is no." It had been 2 years since a show was done there and there was a 2 year drought before that. So I went in and Principal Chournos said "Yeah, sure, what do you want to do?" And was most helpful in doing so. Not having a Drama Teacher at ACYI was one of the biggest things that impeded shows before. So a show was decided and look now it's over. What started out as a simple thought to do a show turned into an amazing experience that I am so glad to have participated in.
There will be a cast party in the High School Drama room Wednesday, May 8th at 3:30. Kids can bring treats and pillows or bean bags, whatever they want. We will be watching a slide show of pictures from the show and then watching the recording of the show. It will be done by 4:40. (The recording of Saturday Night's show was 53 minutes).
Once again thank you for all your hard work and this blog will be the same one for next year. The tentative show date for next year is mid-March with auditions happening in January, right after Winter Break. See you around.

We have a SHOW!!!
I would first like to apologize that today's rehearsal ran longer than normal, but the kids needed it. They felt so much more confident about show after running it twice. Your kids are a amazing! Tomorrow they will be performing for ACYI during school, at 1pm. If you as a parent are unable to attend either performance and want to see your child perform, just email me and we will reserve a chair for you, this is for those parent's who have to work evenings or weekends. You child will need to be at the High School at 6pm Friday evening as well as Saturday evening. They need to have all their costume items for all 3 performances.
We would like to discourage you from recording the show, we are planning to film all three performances and if you would like we would burn a copy of the best one for you. We just don't want to obstruct the view of many others and we have a camera location where we can film the whole stage and zoom in anywhere on stage. So dad's, don't worry about going and searching for the camcorder cables and your arms can rest easy, just sit back and enjoy the show.
The last week of rehearsals I like to call 'Miracle Week', last Thursday I remember leaving rehearsal thinking "What did I get myself into?" today as I was walking down the aisles to talk to the kids, I felt such joy and satisfaction. They have come a long way, it truly has been a miracle, thank you for allowing them on this little adventure.

Thank You So Much
I would just like to thank all the moms who have helped with ticket sales and the snack attack. The kids have appreciated the snacks. As have we, for some reason before everyone would trickle in around 3:20ish for rehearsal, now that there are treats most everyone is here at 3:15. This means we can start rehearsal on time. Just a heads up there is no rehearsal afterschool Friday. They will walk back after the show to ACYI. They will be released Friday after 4th hour or Lunch, depending on their schedule that day. They will walk over with the student directors to the High School. For those of you who bought tickets remember the Blue is Friday and the Yellow is Saturday. On the Yellow tickets it list the 26th as the date when it should say the 27th. So don't go by the date go by the color and day on your ticket. Tomorrow is the last rehearsal, and most likely we will be going over a little bit just to polish up some things. They have come so far this past week. From last Thursday to this past Wednesday, the show has changed so much. Remember that they need their Schoolhouse Rock Shirt at tomorrow's rehearsal and that is what they wear to school on Friday. They need to have all their costumes for each performance, if they don't have all their things they will not be performing. Most of the kids don't have very many things to remember, this is also why I gave them a list of all the things they need so that you the parents can check with them before each rehearsal and performance. It has been so rewarding watching some kids come out of their shells and have a great time. It has been so much fun to see the progress, I hope that you realize how far your own child has come. It's not easy being in this age group and performing in a musical. I would know, I was one not to long ago. Thank you for raising such great kids. From all of us working on Schoolhouse Rock, thank you, thank you for allowing us to work with your children. Can't wait until you can see all the hard work they have done. It has been a worthwhile endeavor.

Snack Attacks for the Schoolhouse Rockers
For those of you who didn't get a note from your children, one of them was about how we would like snacks for the kids for rehearsal this week. If about 4 mothers each day would be bring a snack for about 24 kids. You can just comment on this post with what you will be bring on a certain day that would help everyone know. Look and see what other moms are bringing, such as; cookies, fruit snacks, carrots, etc. Just try and coordinate with the other moms. Also tickets will be on sale starting Monday. Tickets are $3 and if you want to write a check make this payable to BEHS. They will on sale starting at 5pm. Your children's rehearsals will go until 5:15. Thanks again.
Talk with you kids
Each child should be coming home with 2 slips of papers-
Next weeks' rehearsals will go longer than before. They will go until 5:15, and EVERYONE is expected to stay they entire time. If your child misses one rehearsal they will but not allowed to be in the show, if they leave early the same will happen. We have to have everyone there these next few days. In the parent permission slip you all signed you agreed that these were the mandatory dates for everyone. Now if your child is legitimately sick, such as the flu, don't bring them, for sake of the rest of the cast don't bring them. Because if they come then others will get sick. Make sure your child is practicing their dancing and singing and lines where necessary. We have almost made it. This is when the pressure and stress kicks in, not only for us the staff but with the kids. For most of them this is their first show. The biggest tip you can give your child is positive feedback. There are many butting stars in this cast, all they need is confidence. If there are any questions or concerns feel free to email Mr. Erwin at milton.erwin@gmail.com.

Next week April 22-25 rehearsal will be until 5:15. Every person is expected to stay until 5:15 every day that week. Friday the 26th they will be performing for their peers at ACYI during the school time. That Friday there will be no rehearsal afterschool; there will however be an evening performance at 7pm and another on Saturday the 27th, at 7pm as well. We invite you to come and see all the hard work that your kids have put into this show. There will be assigned seating so tickets will go on sale, Monday, April 22. Tickets are $3 per seat. Tickets will be sold all week at 5pm April 22-25. So when you come to pick up your child from rehearsal that week you can come by and buy tickets. You will also be able to buy them at the door the night of performance. On Monday we will be sending home a list of what each person will need for different songs such as, a flashlight , cowboy hat or bowl, etc. These are meant to be 'found' or 'gathered' not bought. If you don't have something you can ask a neighbor or someone, and if in the end you can't find it, come and tell us and we will do our best. It has so great working with all of your kids. When I (Ryan Erwin, Director) was in 6th grade we did Robin Hood and I was one of the Merry Men. The director was Scott Nelson and he said something that has always stuck. He said "Now I want everyone to go home and thank your parents, thank them for sacrificing you in the name of theatre." I know the next two weeks we will be going longer than before but it's so that they have a great time, make memories and put on a good show.

Crazy Weather
Well, guess the groundhog lied. I am posting this because of the snow; we will still be having rehearsal. We are just requesting for the sake of your child to ensure that he/she is picked up and taken to the High School. A carpool would be the best method, so call each other to make sure every child is accounted for. The two reasons are safety and sickness. We want your child to be safe while getting to the High School and we don't want them getting sick during these final rehearsals. I know you mothers already have a million things to do so we would be really grateful, as will your child, if you can arrange a ride for them. Thank you.

Reminder
A reminder for those of you who have yet to pay your $15 cast fee to the office. It was due last Tuesday the 19th. Tomorrow will be the last day that the office will accept money. We have to set this deadline so that we can order the shirts and start buying items for the show. Also a reminder to all parents to check with their children to see when they have rehearsal. You agreed to pick up your children no later than 4:30. Every group rehearsal there have several students who are waiting until as late as 5. We understand that you are busy and have other children and responsibilities to do, but so do those who are volunteering for the show. Mr. Erwin & Ms. Braquel are full time college students who work part time. Mrs. Crane, Williams and Smith are all mothers who teach piano and music classes. Its not fair to them to keep them waiting for your children. Do not expect your children to call you to tell you rehearsal is over. We end at 4:20 everyday. Just know that if your child has rehearsal that it will go until 4:20. Also this past week we had several students drop out due to conflicts with the performance schedule, which was on the parent permission slip you all signed previous to auditioning. Please don't wait until the week before to inform us that there is a soccer tournament. It's not fair to everyone involved, especially those who have to pick up the slack left behind. Also there has been many students who just don't come every time they have rehearsal. We do take roll, if they have missed more than 3 times they will be warned and after the 4th unexcused absence they will be dropped from the show. Starting last week we have be learning the dances for the songs. If someone is missing that day, they will not be participating in that number. We just don't have the time to reteach each dance everyday. We will make exceptions to those who email Mr. Erwin at milton.erwin@gmail.com BEFOREHAND. Also a heads up, April 15, 17, 22, 23, 24 & 25 those are mandatory dates. If there are any complications email Mr. Erwin this week. Especially if you are one of the Homeroom Kids. Rehearsal on the 15 and the 17 will run until 4:30 and 22-25 will go until 5:15. This is when we are putting everything together, costumes, props, scenery, singing, dancing, dialogue, microphones, sound; literally everything. So we need everyone everyday.
With all this said it is so much fun to work with these kids they are so talented and excited. Can't wait to see you all Monday.

You Guys are amazing!
Wow! That is all Ms. Braquel and I can say about today's rehearsal. June, Janet and the Dancers learned an entire song and did it well. We can't wait to see it on stage. We have been learning music really fast, and we have been singing very well. It has been informed to me that apparently GrooveShark.com has not been working on some computers and messing up people's computers. If it is grooveshark's fault I apologize but we use it on the school computer and many kids have said it works fine on theirs. If you would rather listen on YouTube that also works. Make sure that if you have not paid your cast fee to do so this week so we can order the shirts and start getting things for the show. See you guys tomorrow!

Some help for music
We have a lot of music to learn for the show and we are learning it fast but we don't have much time to review. So there is a website called grooveshark.com and when you get there you should type in "Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr." and it will come up with all the songs in the show. The kids can listen and practice their music. This will help all of the kids to learn the music faster and better so that we can start putting it up onstage. Sorry once again for posting it so late last night. The kids are sounding really good, I can't wait until we can put it on stage, it is going to be fabulous! To all the parents, thanks for all you do to support you child, parent support makes all the difference in these shows. Remember June, Janet and the Dancers; tomorrow your practice is at ACYI. It will go until 4:15.

Reminder
Just a reminder to check with your little strip of paper to see if you are involved in the rehearsal. This Friday everyone has rehearsal until 3:50. And some will stay until 4:20.Also you all need to get to the High School as fast as possible. We need to get working right away. We need to be more quiet. Today we were pretty loud and didn't get much accomplished then all of sudden we all got quiet and we were able to get through all of the song. You sound AMAZING! Overall we had a really good rehearsal and we are really excited. But to let you know we are not allowed to wander in the High School we are to head straight to the Drama Room. Today we had a few girls who came before we warmed up and left and came in after 10 minutes. We can't have that. Also during rehearsal, NO CELL PHONES. There were several girls who were texting or taking pictures. That is unacceptable. We are to be working. Now if your mother calls you answer it outside the room but please NO TEXTING, especially other kids at rehearsal. It is a distraction. Also your parents need to pick you up by 4:30. Now with all that said you guys are great. You don't sound like typical 12 year olds. Remember to pay you $15 cast fee to the office during school. If for any reason you cannot afford it email me and we can find a sponsor so that you can participate in this. Remember to check and see if you have rehearsal tomorrow.

Information
We are so happy to have you all in the show. We are going to have a lot of fun, but in order to have fun we need to establish some ground rules.
1. Never, never , never are the cast members allowed to walk to BEHS alone. EVER! You must come in groups of 5 or more. All the rehearsals are at BEHS unless posted otherwise. You will need to get there fast because we will be starting rehearsals at 3:15. They will go until 4:20 or they will end earlier.
2. Your parents or guardian must pick you up by 4:30. We cannot leave you waiting for more than 10 minutes for your parents.
3. You must call Mr. Erwin, Mr. Erwin. Although he looks young he still is the director and needs to be treated with respect. Mr. E will also work. The same goes for our Music Directors, they must be called Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Crane. As well as Mrs. Day. Now our Choreographer is Ms. Woodward but you may call her Ms. Braquel. You can't just call her by her first name. The student directors you may call by their first names.
4. When we are in rehearsal we are working, we need to be quiet. Today we had to quiet everyone several times. I know that this is so much fun but we need to focus. We will have breaks and time to chat, but when we are working, we are working, not talking.
Now we know that complications arise. We are understanding of that. If you need to miss, let us know in advance. You may email Mr. Erwin at milton.erwin@gmail.com. Put your name and when you need to miss and why. Details are not important, Family matters or illness will be enough.
The $15 Cast fee will need to be taken to the office and paid to the secretaries there. DO NOT BRING IT TO REHEARSAL. All money is paid TO THE OFFICE. Double check to see if your T-shirt size is correct.
The calendar will list who has rehearsal. It will list the songs that will be reviewed on certain days. The little slips of paper will tell you when you have rehearsal. The calendar will updated every Sunday evening on the blog and posted in the office Monday morning. We will do this each week. Spring break there will only be rehearsal Monday afterschool. After that just enjoy your week off and come back ready to work.
Knowing that people will ask the show dates are Friday April 26 and Saturday April 27 at 7pm. The tickets will be $3 a person. They will be general admission seats and will go in sale Monday the 22nd.

Hello Potential Schoolhouse Rockers
Well for all of you ACYI students who are interested in auditioning, we recommend that you do. Being a part of a show isn't about what part you play, how many lines you have or how many minutes you are on stage; its about having a good time and making new friends. This show is upbeat and super fun! We hope to see you all afterschool Tuesday March 5th for your auditions. Just come and we will give you a small verse to sing. MAKE SURE YOU BRING YOUR PARENT PERMISSION SLIP. This is very important, without it you will not able to try-out. If you lose yours or your friend wants one, go to the office. Read it, fill it out, have your parents sign it and bring it on Tuesday. It's that simple. Have a great week and see you Tuesday.

Welcome
Well ACYI has now received and will be passing out the parent permission/audition forms this week. So for those of you who are curious, this show will be a lot of fun. The show follows a group of kids in home room who discover a TV and suddenly, the cartoon hit, Schoolhouse Rock, becomes Live. As they put aside differences and personal problems they develop new found friendships while dancing to their favorite hit songs such as- Just a Bill, Conjunction Junction, The Preamble and many more. But of course Ms. Schwartz, their homeroom teacher, wants to ruin this day. Come and be apart of the most interesting day in Spilled Milk Middle School history.
Auditions will be March 5 with callbacks by invitations 6,7,8 of March by necessity. These are potential callbacks and are by invitation. We may not need all 3 days but if we do please keep them open. You don't need to prepare anything for auditions we will have everything you need. You must have the permission slip signed in order to audition.
If there are any questions you may post them here and we will respond as soon as possible.
We look forward to working with you!

Calling all Student Directors
Student Director Interviews for Schoolhouse Rock Live
Jr.
We are holding interviews for
student directors for the ACYI musical for the following areas:
Choreography- you will be
responsible for small or large group numbers. Your students will range from no
dance experience to several years. Must be able to teach and choreograph for
all levels.
Stage
Management- you will be responsible for all the behind-the-scene
aspects. You will be child herding and cue calling. Must be able to multi-task
and problem solve.
Interviews will be held on Friday, February 15th, after school. Sign-ups will be for every 5
minutes. Priority will be made for those with extenuating circumstance, please
inform Mrs. Day. Be prepared with a resume and a smile. Your contribution this
show is critical and you must be prepared to commit to several afternoons a
week. You will be a mentor and example to these students, so a high level of
character and professionalism is absolutely necessary, but don’t think we are
going to forget about personality. We are looking for proactive students. Be
yourself. Best of luck to you all.
